If someone asked you to vote between raping versus robbing a group of innocent people, how would you respond? (This scenario posits that a third party, not you, will do the actual dirty work.) Would you choose "the lesser of two evils" as you see it, or would you refuse to make such an abhorrent choice no matter what?
After you figure out where you stand -- I hope it didn't take very long -- consider that this is indeed the choice you will face in the voting booth, when you are alone with only your conscience to guide you. Go ahead and pull the lever if you have no scruples about choosing either one presidential candidate (Obama) who openly rejects the principles of limited government this Republic was founded on, versus another candidate (McCain) who says he embraces those principles but often rejects them anyway (e.g., gutting the First Amendment with McCain-Feingold; raining fire down on foreign nations that have not attacked us; rolling out the red carpet to illegal aliens, etc.). If, however, you retain in your soul an ounce of moral sanity or of our American tradition, you will see this exercise as an abomination and refuse to bestow any legitimacy on it.
"But what about third-party candidates?" Granted, some of these people are more principled than Obama or McCain, but they are still running to occupy an office whose modern dimensions exceed anything the Constitution or conscience can permit. For example, suppose an ordained minister were vying to become the boss of bosses in the mafia, but he needed your vote to pull it off. Would you really feel comfortable voting for him because he is (ostensibly) a man of God? Wouldn't it trouble you that you had lent you name and your efforts to a criminal, immoral enterprise?
If you go to the polls tomorrow, vote on how to run your State and your local community, not on how to run people's lives across the continent or over the ocean. Regardless of whether you heed this advice, the day is fast approaching when you will not be able to maintain your absentee rule over these faraway people, so you might as well do the moral thing before it becomes the inevitable thing.
