Statement Of Purpose

My goal is to shake as many Americans as possible from their stupor and have them come to a simple yet undeniable realization: the modern federal government is unconstitutional, illegitimate, and unworthy of obedience. Occasional violations of the Constitution mushroomed into a full-blown repudiation of it decades ago, and we have not lived under the rule of law since. The recent unpleasantness associated with the Bush presidency represents merely the latest stage in a degenerative illness, one that is not confined to a single administration or even to a single political party, but rather infests the entire apparatus of the federal government. By making itself the final arbiter of its own powers, the federal government has shredded the very Constitution that gave it life.

I will re-print in this blog the Introduction to my book Unlawful Government: Preserving America In A Post-Constitutional Age. From there I will make regular commentary on the serious problems we face as a society lacking the rule of law, and I will invite you to share your thoughts on what we can do. My personal viewpoint is that the Constitution cannot be enforced or amended so as to deliver on the promise of the Declaration Of Independence, which is to preserve our inalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Why would the government obey a new Constitution when it routinely flouts the existing one? Besides, I shudder to think what brand of document modern "minds" would spawn, even if it were obeyed to the letter. The sad fact is that all governments eventually destroy their internal legal restraints, so the best we can accomplish at this late date is to abolish the federal government and disperse political power to smaller entities, such as the States. Even though those smaller entities will surely abuse power whenever the chance arises, they will be restrained by the need to compete with each other, and they will have much less of a geographical reach or a tax base with which to transgress.

I look forward to hearing whatever ideas, suggestions, or even criticisms that anyone has to offer.
